Concert dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Avet Terteryan took place in Riga

On November 22, the Embassy of Armenia to Latvia organized a concert at  Riga Museum of History and Navigation dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the great Armenian composer Avet Terteryan.

The event was attended by the representative of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the Baltic countries father Khosrov Stepanyan, high-ranking officials of the Latvian legislative and executive branches as well as other state agencies, ambassadors accredited in Riga, members of the diplomatic corps, public and political figures and members of the Armenian community.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan introduced Avet Terterian's biography and his musical career and attached importance to the connection of Terterian's avant-garde music with the Armenian spiritual traditions. 

Ambassador noted, the 150th anniversaries of Komitas and Hovhannes Tumanyan are included in the UNESCO Calendar of anniversaries of eminent personalities and important events, but the Embassy also initiated a series of events dedicated to Avet Terteryan's 90th anniversary to highlight Terterian's great contribution to the development and dissemination of Armenian culture.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan also introduced tonight's musicians - Armine Grigoryan, director of Aram Khachaturian house-museum and pianist of Khachaturian trio and Siranush Gasparyan, the soloist of National Opera of Armenia. 

Concluding his speech, the Ambassador thanked a representative of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the Baltic States,er Khosrov Stepanyan, and Aram Harutyunyan, a businessman, for assisting with the embassy and concert.
