Orchestral works by Komitas were performed for the first time

Event dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Komitas took place in newly built Events Auditorium of  Holy See Etchmiadzin under the patronage of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians.

The event was attended by Primates of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Minister of Education, Sciences, Culture and Sport of RA Araik Harutyunyan, Minister of High-Technological Industry of RA Hakob Arshakyan,  musicians, musicologists etc. The evening began with the Lord’s Prayer, “Etchmiadzin I Hore” carol and the speech of Father Asoghik Karapetyan, director of Museums and Archive of Holy See. The Catholicos of All Armenians conveyed his Pontifical blessings to all presents in the auditorium. 

The concert featured Armenian State Symphony Orchestra(artistic director and principal conductor Sergey Smbatyan) and Armenian State Academic Capella (artistic director and principal conductor, Hero of Armenia Hovhannes Chekijian) and pianist Lusine Khachatryan.

Musicologist-medievalist, PhD in Art, Honored Worker of Art of RA presented the program of the evening and a lecture: “Komitas Vardapet”, “Komitas and Europe” “Komitas and we”. Within the framework of the evening Orchestral works composed by Komitas in Berlin (“Memory” and “Forest night”) were performed for the first time.
