The Armenian premiere of the concert performance of opera "Andrea Chenier" by Umberto Giordano performed at A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet Theatre of Armenia on the 7th of October.

The opera is l based on the life of the poet Andre Chenier (1762-1794) - the French revolution activist who was executed during that period. His works expressed sympathy for the royalist cause, however, placing him in danger of arrest. After a period of mainly nocturnal excursions when he took refuge in Versailles, he was arrested in error for the aristocrat being sought; and was imprisoned at Luxembourg and later the prison, Saint-Lazare. In his last days of power, Robespierre sentenced Chenier to death on a charge of conspiracy and the sentence was fulfilled shortly thereafter. Chenier's best poems were written during this period and inspired Luigi Illica to write the opera libretto.

Honored artist Hovhannes Ayvazyan (tenor) appeared as the poet, while Davit Babayants (baritone) acted as Carlo Gerard. Siranush Gasparyan performed as Maddalena di Coigny (soprano), Greta Bagiyan as La Comtesse di Coigny (mezzo-soprano). Varsenik Avanyan, Hayk Tigranyan, Poghos Beazbekyan, Hovhannes Andreasyan, Armen Badalyan, and Ashot Ghantarjyan also performed in concert performance. The concert was held under the baton of Gianluca Marciano from Italy.
