Biography
Composer Grigor Hakhinyan was born in Vanadzor. He graduated from the Department of Composition at Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory (1957, professor: Grigor Yeghiazaryan). From 1961-1976, he was a teacher at the Romanos Melikyan Music School in Yerevan, since 1970 he taught at the Yerevan Conservatory (professor 1989), and since 1974, parallelly, he was the chairman of the Armenian Department of Music Foundation.
Wrote operas ("The Man of Legend", 1970, "Tsovinar", 1973), ballets ("Akhtamar", 1961, "Loretsi Sako", 1961, "Willow", 1963), cantatas ("Sayat-Nova", 1963, "Armenia", 1983, "Great Victory", 1985), oratorio ("Tondraketsi", 1966), 4 symphonies (1969, 1975, 1978, 1983), concert for violin and symphony orchestra (1957), for trombone and symphony orchestra (1977), canon and folk ensemble (1987), duduk and folk ensemble (1988) concerts, instrumental and vocal pieces, soundtracks and drama performances. He arranged folk and minstrels songs. Honored Art Worker of the ASSR (1972), People's Artist of Armenia (1990).
