Aram Khachaturian-120։ ANPO performed in Athens
On 12 November 2023, at Megaron Concert Hall of Athens, the concert of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia under the baton of Eduard Topchjan, the orchestra's artistic director and principal conductor. Violinist Anush Nikoghosyan, performed Concerto for Violin and Orchestra of the composer Aram Khachaturian.
Minister of National Defense of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Nikos Δένδιας, representatives of the executive and legislative power, heads of foreign diplomatic missions accredited to Greece, diplomats, representatives of the Armenian church, representatives of Greek intelligentsia, and other guests attend a concert. In Athens, the concert was held with the support of the Embassy of Armenia to Greece, as part of the world tour of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia, and on the occasion of the Celebration of Aram Khachaturian's 120th Birth Anniversary.
Mr. Tigran Mkrtchyan, the Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Greece, delivered a welcome speech, presenting Aram Khachaturian's concert tour in Greece, year 1965, as well as his legacy to world culture. Also, Ambassador Mkrtchyan referred to the visits of the National Philanthropic Orchestra of Armenia to Greece, especially after the Independence of Armenia, years 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1998, underlining that this particular tour is exceptional in many ways, as it takes place after a quarter of a century and is dedicated to the 120th birth Anniversary of world-renowned Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, noting that the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia is the best interpreter of his works in the world. "It is a special honor for the Embassy of Armenia to Greece to be a supporter of this concert in some way because the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia is a unique institution that represents at the highest level the Armenian culture in the world. The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia is a cultural symbol, and its presence in large Musical Halls of the world gives all of us a sense of pride,"- said Mr. Mkrtchyan.
Also, in his greeting speech, the Ambassador referred to the orchestra's other concerts scheduled during this tour - Thessaloniki, New York, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, underlining that the concert planned in Boston is for charity, and the proceeds from the tickets will go to humanitarian aid to support the forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno Karabakh as a result of the military aggression launched by Azerbaijan.
At the end of his speech, the Ambassador thanked the institutions and organizations that supported the tour of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia.
