I like duduk very much, but we need to get rid of "duduk coding": Hasmik Papyan
The Armenian premiere of C․ W․ Gluck's opera "Orpheus and Eurydice" will take place in the hall of the YKSC Opera Studio after Gh. Saryan on July 16. The project is implemented in cooperation with the Studio and the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. Hasmik Papyan, Artistic Director of the Studio, People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Eduard Topchyan, Artistic Director and Principal conductor of the ANPO, Suren Shahijanyan, French-Armenian conductor, director Vram Karapetyan and famous artist Tigrand Dzitoghtsyan joined the initiative.
During the press conference held on the eve of the premiere, Hasmik Papyan mentioned that this is her first job as the artistic director of the Opera Studio. "Why Gluck?" Because I think that our people need threat and heal their souls throughout the music especially now. Baroque music has not been performed here, and Gluck is an encyclopedia of baroque music. I like duduk very much, but we need to get rid of "duduk coding" and be treated.” Papyan emphasizes the role of culture in healing the society and rebuilding the country, although the idea of staging a new opera was not considered right by some people these days. "Many people said that there are many people in need and you are staging an opera now. If we wait for everyone to be fed and have a roof, we will forget our alphabet," Papyan concluded.
The performances will be conducted by Eduard Topchyan on July 16, 20, and by Suren Shahijanyan -on July 17, 19.
"A huge work was done in a short period of time. This Gluck opera is an exceptional work, we gladly agreed to join around this idea, "said ANPO artistic director Eduard Topchyan. Conductor Suren Shahijanyan, in his turn, mentioned that he is happy to work with talented young Armenians. "They are very talented guys, they need guidance to double their talent," said Shahijanyan.
"I put the emphasis on Orpheus, I deepened on his concerns. He is one of the brightest characters in opera: a musician and a poet whom the gods like," said director Vram Karapetyan, speaking about the performance.
As a stage designer, the opera "Orpheus and Eurydice" is Tigran Dzitoghtsyan 's first experience and as he says, it was a big challenge ․ "I couldn't even imagine that one day I will do such work, as there are many professionals in this field. This was a learning process for me, we changed everything "fifteen" times and this performance could be the "fifteenth". It was a state of chaos, but every good thing has been creating from chaos," the artist concluded.
