Mariam Tonyan passed away

Mariam Tonyan passed away
The oldest teacher in Armenia, Mariam Tonyan or Maria Arshakovna died at the age of 103. Mariam Tonoyan had been teaching harmony at the P. Tchaikovsky School since its founding in 1938. "If you want to shorten my life, you need to fire me," the pedagogue joked to the director of the School.

Mariam Tonyan was born in 1919 in Tbilisi. At the age of two, the family moved to Yerevan. His father, mathematician, pedagogue Arshak Tonyan, was exiled during the Stalinist dictatorship and didn't come back.

Armenian National Music expresses its condolences to M. Tonoyan's family, relatives, and all students.
