Exhibition "Ara Harutyunyan: From Komitas to Komitas " opened in Yerevan
A temporary exhibition entitled "Ara Harutyunyan: From Komitas to Komitas " opened at Komitas Museum-Institute and will continue until June 1.
In monumental art sculptor, painter, People's Artist of the Republic of Armenia, Corresponding Member of the RF Academy of Fine Arts, Professor Ara Harutyunyan began and finished his career with Komitas. Most of the presented works are unknown to art lovers: They were created over decades and "lived " side by side in the sculptor's studio for years.
The exhibition presents not only the author's completed works but also sketches, drawings on Komitas themes, sculptures, which make visible the difficult, sometimes painful process of creating an image, from a sketch to a bronze cast, allowing the visitor to "enter" his laboratory.
The aim of the exhibition is to present Ara Harutyunyan's entire "Komitas" on one platform for the first time. The first monumental sculpture dedicated to Komitas, which was Ara Harutyunyan's diploma work, was erected in 1954 in the Pantheon on the tomb of Komitas. The last monumental work dedicated to Komitas was installed in 1988 in the park of the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory.
The curator of the exhibition is Marine Haroyan.
