Komitas International Conference-Festival kicks off in Yerevan

Komitas International Conference-Festival kicks off in Yerevan
On the occasion of the 156th anniversary of the birth of the great poet Komitas, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, the staff of the Komitas Museum-Institute, intellectuals, and artists visited the Komitas Pantheon and laid flowers at the grave of the great poet.

Next, the exhibition “Letters from Villejuif” (Komitas Gevorgyan’s collection) was opened at the Komitas Museum-Institute. Documents and letters related to the last years of Komitas’ life were presented, which provide an opportunity to illuminate the little-studied pages of the great poet’s biography from a new perspective, as well as to reveal some details related to Komitas’ personality and activities.

The “Komitas” international conference-festival has also been launched at the museum, which is held every year from September 26 to October 8, between Komitas’ birthday in the new and old calendars.

The conference is attended by musicologists from different countries of the world, representatives of related scientific branches, who present their research. The topic covers various areas of Komitas' life and work: medieval studies, musical folklore, compositional art, etc. Discussions will take place within the framework of the conference, and new ideas will be presented.

During the festival, Komitas' music, music of his period, as well as medieval and different ethnic music will be performed.
