German "Kuss" quartet to present several programs in Yerevan
The famous German "Kusս" string quartet will arrive in Armenia and will present several programs in Yerevan.
A discussion with the participation of quartet violinists Jana Kuss and Oliver Wille will take place on the Ground floor of Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall on June 17, at 7 p.m.
The quartet will perform a concert on June 18, at 19:00 in "Arno Babajanyan" concert hall. The trademark of the Kuss Quartet is its concept-based programming. With common themes running throughout their programs, they offer unique experiences to accustomed audiences and new listeners alike. The evening will feature works by Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Leos Janacek, Komitas, Bela Bartոok, and György Kurtág.
The idea of crisis goes through the red line in the conceptual area of the program. Writing the selected works, the composers were in a certain political, social, historical, or personal crisis.
In addition, there will be chamber ensemble master classes on June 19. At the same time, there will be 4 master classes, each led by one of the members of the "Kuss" quartet.
The State Philharmonia implements the project with the support of the RA Ministry of ESCS.
The members of the quartet are violinists Jana Kuss and Oliver Wille, violist William Coleman and cellist Mikayel Hakhnazaryan. In early 2019, the Kuss Quartet was the first German string quartet to receive Stradivari’s legendary “Paganini Quartet” on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation. The quartet played Beethoven’s complete string quartet cycle on these instruments in June 2019, by invitation of the Suntory Hall, Tokyo. The live, recorded cycle will be released in early 2020 by the British label Rubicon Classics with the support of G. Henle Verlag. At the end of 2019, to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg, Sony Classical will release the Piano Quintet, together with Olga Scheps. In 2018 the quartet received the Opus Klassik Prize, for their recording of works by Rudi Stephans, also on the Sony label.
