Biography
The Armenian pianist Lilit Grigoryan started to play piano at the age of 7 with Professor Arkuhi Harutyunyan, and was later a student of Professor Sergey Sarajyan and Professor Matthias Kirschnereit. She graduated in Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock with the highest distinction. In 2008, she received the prestigious Culture Prize of President of Armenia. She was also awarded Honors by the State Duma of Russian Federation and the Mayor of the City of Yerevan. She has been the prize-winner of several international and national competitions.
Lilit has toured across the globe and performs in venues including the Konzerthaus Berlin, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie Essen, Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Gasteig Munich, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Great Hall of Mozarteum Salzburg, Salle Cortot, Cité de la Musique, BOZAR, Fla de la Música Catalana, Auditorio Nacional de Música Madrid, Halle aux Grains in Toulouse and Steinway Halls in New York, London and Hamburg.
As a soloist, Lilit performs with numerous orchestras including Sinfonia Varsovia, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège, Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, North German Philharmonic, Polish Chamber Orchestra, amongst others. In addition, she makes appearances at various prestigious festivals including Schleswig Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Verbier, Gezeitenkonzerte, Kultursommer Nordhessen, Auvers-sur-Oise, Colmar, Menton, Midis-Minimes as well as others.
Lilit is also a devoted chamber musician and regularly collaborates with artists including Maria João Pires, Sarah Christian, Hiyoli Togawa, Andrei Ioniţă and William Hagen.
Her concerts have been broadcast on Deutschlandradio, BBC Radio 3, BR Klassik, NDR Kultur, MDR Kultur, SWR Kultur, Radio France, Musique 3, France 3 as well as the public broadcasting companies in Armenia, Radio Mexico and RAI 3.
Lilit’s debut CD was released in 2012 and featured works by Scarlatti, Schumann, Bartók and Khachaturian (DiscAuverS). In 2017 and 2018, a further two chamber music recordings were released to critical acclaim; the first with violinist Sarah Christian (Genuin) and the second with violinist Hiyoli Togawa (Naxos). In November 2018, Lilit released "Variations sérieuses" (Orchid Classics) including works by Bach-Busoni, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bizet and Szymanowski. The recording has been received very enthusiastically by international reviewers.
From 2012 to 2016 Lilit was also Artist in Residence at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium, under the direction of Maria João Pires. Since then, an intense and inspiring collaboration has been established with Maria João and her diverse projects.
Lilit has been a prizewinner of several international competitions and was supported by various foundations during her studies including Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben, Safran, Horst-Rahe-Stiftung and the Keyboard Charitable Trust. She has also won a Scholarship from Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe and the Tabor Piano Prize of the Verbier Academy.
In 2008, Lilit received the prestigious Culture Prize of President of Armenia; she was also awarded honors by the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Mayor of the City of Yerevan.
Lilit Grigoryan is teaching at the Rostock University of Music and Drama.
