Arax Mansourian

Opera singer and soprano Arax Mansuryan was born on August 1, 1946, in Beirut.

She studied at the Romanos Melikyan Music College and graduated from the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan in 1977.

From 1977 to 1992, she was a soloist at the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In 1992, she was invited to the Sydney Opera House as a soloist, where she has continued her professional and teaching career.

She teaches at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, promoting Armenian vocal music and culture. Thanks to her efforts, the works of Komitas, Kanachyan, Melikyan, Spendiaryan, and other Armenian composers have found their way into the repertoires of numerous young international singers.

Thanks to her beautiful vocal timbre, wide range, and outstanding musical and theatrical abilities, Arax Mansuryan's repertoire includes some of the most demanding works of Armenian, Russian, and Western European opera. Her roles include Elisabeth in Don Carlos, Nedda in Pagliacci, Leonora in Il Trovatore, Aida in Aida, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Isolde in Tristan und Isolde, Shushan in David Bek, and Anoush in Anoush.

In 2015, Arax Mansuryan was awarded the 1st Degree Medal "For Services to the Homeland."

Arax Mansuryan's name is closely associated with the preservation, development, and international recognition of the finest traditions of Armenian opera. For decades, she has proudly represented Armenian vocal art both in her homeland and on prestigious stages around the world.
