The European Shooting Championship Kicks Off in Yerevan: The Opening Ceremony Composer Is Andranik Berberyan
The European Shooting Championship has officially kicked off in Yerevan, marking the first time in history that the tournament is being held in Armenia. The opening ceremony took place at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, featuring modern lighting, staging, and musical arrangements.

Andranik Berberyan composed the music for the opening ceremony. It was created around the essence of Armenian culture and the spirit of the sport, reflecting concentration, calculation, precision, and inner tension, while maintaining Armenian solemnity. The Berberyan Studios team also developed the project. Chief sound director Tigran Kuzikyan handled sound design and recordings.

Andranik Berberyan and director Nairé Stepanyan incorporated elements of traditional Armenian dance, blending them with contemporary approaches. During the ceremony, international audiences heard the sounds of Armenian musical instruments, accompanied by modern costumes and choreography for Armenian dance created by Hovhannes Sargsyan.

The opening show narrates a human journey — from silence to the target. It symbolises both internal and external processes, where focus, choice, and heritage unite into a single force. Precision becomes art, time turns into living memory, and identity guides direction. In the finale, vision and purpose converge at a single point — the target — representing inner clarity.

The event was organized by Background Production. Hundreds of athletes, coaches, and delegates from around 40 countries have gathered in Armenia to participate in the championship. Competitions will be held in air pistol, air rifle, and moving target disciplines. A total of 70 sets of medals will be awarded.

“For me, it was important that the music not merely accompany the ceremony, but become its conceptual core — uniting all elements of the production into one,” the composer explained.

Earlier, Berberyan composed music for several large- scale projects. In 2022, he created music for Armenia's visual presentation at Expo 2020 Dubai. In 2023, he scored at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship. In 2024, he authored music for the gala concert of the 33rd Annual Meeting and Business Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. In 2025, he composed music for the opening ceremony of the 60th European Senior Karate Championship, as well as the opening music and main theme (fanfare) for the “Khazer” Armenian Music Awards.

Berberyan recently became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which votes on the Academy Awards.
