Armenian baritone Aksel Daveyan wins Elena Obraztsova International Competition
The XIV Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Opera Singers was held in St. Petersburg from 12 to 15 July 2023. The gala concert of the laureates and the awards ceremony took place on 15 July. By the decision of the jury, Armenian baritone Aksel Daveyan was announced as the winner of the competition. He also took the creative prize of the Radio Orpheus.
The competition was hosted at the Elena Obraztsova Cultural Centre. The jury of the XIV competition includes outstanding singers and musical theater figures from Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Italy, and Switzerland. Among them is People's Artist of the USSR, Professor of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory Makvala Kasrashvili, People's Artist of Russia, Artistic Director of the Academy of Young Opera Singers of the Mariinsky Theater and the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Larisa Gergieva, leading soloist and director of the Bolshoi Theater Belarus Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Oksana Volkova and others.
