After 160 years, the opera "Arshak II" will be performed in its complete Italian version
The premiere of Tigran Tchouhajian's restored opera "Arshak II" will take place on March 22 at A. Spendiarian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, with financial support from the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports under the new model of financing theater and concert organizations.

Tigran Tchouhajian's opera "Arshak II" will be performed for the first time in its original Italian language by the soloists, chorus, and orchestra of A. Spendiarian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.

The musical director and conductor of the performance is Donato Renzetti (Italy), and the stage director is Jean-Roman Vesperini (France).

RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Daniel Danielyan attended the stage rehearsal of Tigran Tchouhajian's opera "Arshak II" and monitored the continuing creative process. The deputy minister emphasized the need to perform the original "Arshak II" opera on the Armenian stage."This is a massive event. Almost 160 years after its creation, the "Arshak II" opera is performed in its original form on the stage of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, named after A. Spendiaryan. The opera "Arshak II" has never been performed to an audience. Italian is regarded the language of the opera genre, and, notably, this project is a fantastic opportunity to present, propagate, and publicize the work of the Armenian composer.

John Sargsyan, a composer and musicologist, who restored and recreated the original Italian texts, mentioned that the original Italian version of the opera "Arshak II" was handwritten and was impossible to read. "In the original one, there were some incomplete parts and imperfections that were restored and cleaned. We approached Karen Durgaryan, director of the A. Spendiarian National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, with an initiative to present the opera "Arshak II" and he gladly accepted it. The theater's creative staff is currently preparing for the opera's premiere, which has never been presented in its original form".
