Navasard Hakobyan takes the third prize at Operalia
Thirtieth Anniversary Edition of Operalia, the World Opera Competition, hosted by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cape Town Opera at the Artscape Theatre Centre culminated yesterday. Armenian artist, baritone Navasard Hakobyan has won the third prize at the competition as well as special The Don Placido Domingo Ferrer prize of Zarzuela.
A total of 34 young vocalists from all over the world participated in this contest, including bass-baritone Hovhannes Karapetyan from Armenia, who was among the semi-finalists. Operalia was founded in 1993 by Plácido Domingo to discover and help launch the careers of the most promising young opera singers of today.
