Adam Akopian wins Royal Concertgebouw Competition
Pianist Adam Akopian has won the Royal Concertgebouw Competition. Sunday 20 June was the final of the thirteenth edition of the Competition. The six finalists showed their musical talents to the jury in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw. The 12-year-old Adam Akopian received the Royal Concertgebouw Competition Trophy from the hands of jury chairman Vincent de Kort. In addition, Adam Akopian will have a recital in the Kleine Zaal next season.

The jury was very impressed with the young pianist. "You don't play music, you are music. You are a great pianist and you know a lot about music. When you have to be serious you are, but you also have a lot of humor", said head of jury Vincent de Kort about Adam Akopian.

From the 215 YouTube entries submitted last fall by young musicians from all over the country, the jury selected 12 semi-finalists. They were in the semifinals in May, in the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw and in the presence of only the jury because of the corona measures. Sixty participants then took part in the interactive online workshop Improvisation under the guidance of violinist Yannick Hiwat and pianist Alexander van Popta. The six remaining participants, the finalists, then followed the Masterclass Stage Presentation at the beginning of June by Martina Forni, violist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. And on June 20, the time had come: the grande finale.
