Armen Tutunjyan’s “Jazz in Armenia” Now Available in English
The English edition of "Jazz in Armenia," written by renowned Armenian jazz musician, educator, and historian Armen (Chico) Tutunjyan, has been released. Armen Tutunjyan, celebrated for his influential career as a drummer, founder, and bandleader of the "Chico & Friends" jazz group (1993-2017), as well as the author and host of the "Jazz Time" TV show (1998-2017), vividly captured the essence of jazz culture in Armenia.
Originally published in Russian in 2014, the book was released in Armenian in 2018. "Jazz in Armenia" offers an in-depth exploration of the 85-year history of Armenian jazz. The book features artistic portraits of over 50 prominent Armenian jazz artists and includes more than 80 concise bios of jazz musicians, with special emphasis on internationally acclaimed artists of Armenian descent. Enriched with over 500 rare archival photographs, the book also includes more than 70 QR codes, allowing readers to experience the finest examples of Armenian jazz through audio and video.
The book stands out for its professional and artistic depth, marking it as the most comprehensive literary work on Armenian jazz to date.
The publication of the English edition was made possible through a grant from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia. The book is published by "Sarer" cultural NGO.
