Concert dedicated to the memory of Elżbieta Penderecki
As part of the Contemporary Music Festival supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, another symphonic concert took place, dedicated to the memory of the Polish cultural figure Elżbieta Penderecka.
Elżbieta Penderecka devoted her entire life to preserving and promoting the musical legacy of her husband, the renowned composer of Armenian descent, Krzysztof Penderecki. In her memory, Adagio from Penderecki’s Symphony No. 3 was performed.
Performed by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, with distinguished pianist Ruben Kozín and under the baton of Maestro Sergey Smbatyan, Eduard Hayrapetyan’s Forgotten Waltz and Piano Concerto No. 2 were presented for the first time. The concerto was composed eight years ago and, due to various circumstances, was only premiered on stage now.
The concert program also featured “Nunatak” for orchestra by Catherine Saxon and Violin Concerto No. 1 by Roman Kim, performed by the composer himself, the talented violinist Roman Kim.
The Contemporary Music Festival, which showcases Armenian compositional art, is organized in cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia and the Composers’ Union of Armenia. Within the framework of the festival, works by Armenian composers will be released on major media platforms, including Universal Edition.
The festival's strategic partner is GTB Holdings.
