Education and culture suffered the most because of COVID-19. If other sectors are slowly resuming their work, there is no talk of active concert activities.
To overcome this crisis, which has hit the performing arts hard, concerts with online donations are being organized in European countries.
And what is the situation in Armenia? Many Armenian musicians perform online, but there is no word about online donations yet. Are Armenian music lovers ready to pay for online concerts and thus support their favorite musicians? Armenian National Music conducted a small survey to find out the opinion of the Armenian audience about online concerts. Totally 605 people took part in the poll, almost 50% of which were 23-35 years old. The oldest participant in the pool was 65 years old. 45.2% of the respondents mentioned the field of culture in the "employment sector", 27.5% - education and science, 5.6% - service industry, 3.5% presented themselves as a business owner, 3% work in the field of information technology, the rest - other fields (psychology, tourism, journalism, agriculture, etc.).
The respondents had the opportunity to mention several genres of their musical preferences. As a result, 79.3% of the respondents mentioned classical music, 48.9% - jazz, 29.8% - folk, 29.5% - spiritual, 16.4% - minstrels, 23.6% of the respondents mentioned other genres of music (rock, blues, pop, techno, etc.).
According to the results of the poll, before the pandemic, 6.2 % of respondents were attending a concert once a year, 23% - several times a month, 21.6 % once a month, 16.4% - once a week, and 9.5% - once a year. 3.3% of the respondents did not enjoy live concerts at all. As for online concerts, 47.9% of respondents from time to time join the online concerts, 43.6% - always follow, 7.9% do not follow at all, the rest of the respondents rarely follow, there are those who have not heard about online concerts at all.
The poll shows, that most of our respondents are classical and jazz music lovers. And how much is the Armenian audience ready to pay for their favorite artist's online concert, and in general, are they ready to support music artists in online platform? Most of the respondents say "No". 22.6% is not going to pay for the online concert, 18.7% is ready to pay up to 1000, 18.4% - up to 2000, 16.1% - up to 5000, 12.8% - up to 3000, 5.6% - up to 4000 AMD. 5.8% gave very different answers. Some people think that the artist himself should set the price of their performance, while others think that the price of the concert may be different depending on the artist.
Our respondents had the opportunity to express their opinion on online concerts, as well as to make suggestions. The main suggestion of the respondents is to find other solutions, for example, to organize open-air concerts or reduce the number of visitors in the hall. Many of them think that direct human communication with art is the main meaning of art and it shouldn't be forgotten, the online concerts don't give positive vibes, or the video of the same artist's live performance can be found on the Internet absolutely free. The music lover is ready to pay to support the artist yet not to enjoy a concert.
