Soprano Elvira Ouzounian passed away
Armenian opera singer, People's Artist of Armenia and Georgia, soprano Elvira Ouzounian has passed away in the United States at the age of 91.
Elvira Ouzounian was born on December 6, 1934, in Tbilisi. She received her professional education at the Tbilisi Sarajishvili State Conservatory before moving to Armenia.
Since 1962, she performed at the Yerevan Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, portraying the roles of Anush in Tigranyan's opera "Anush", Olympia in Chukhajyan's opera "Arshak II", Rosina in Rossini's opera "The Barber of Seville", Violetta in Verdi's opera "La Traviata", and many others.
In 1978, she was awarded the titles of People's Artist of the Armenian and Georgian SSRs.
Elvira Ouzounian also performed on various stages around the world, including Germany, Canada, Egypt, the USA, and other countries.
She starred in several films: “Garni” (1966), “The Shore of Youth” (1969), “White Shores” (1975), “Five Days Again” (1978), “Hotel “Grandma”” (1980), “Partial Incident” (1983), etc.
In recent years, she lived in the USA, where, in addition to her concert activities, she collaborated with the Armenian community to create and lead the “Help Young Talents” organization in Boston, supporting the development of young Armenian artists.
