Khachaturian's Violin Concerto: History
Aram Khachaturian is a famous composer, whose name is inscribed in golden letters in world music. One of his most famous works is the Violin concerto, included in the repertoire of today's musicians. According to musicologists, the work perfectly reflects the nature and life of his motherland. Armenian National Music presents the history of its creation, as well as interesting facts about this masterpiece. 

The composition was written in 1940 in Old Ruza during his vacations. Khachaturian showed his new masterpiece to one of the renowned violinists of his time David Oistrakh who agreed to perform it. The premiere of the concert took place in the autumn of the same year, in Moscow. Among the listeners were Dmitry Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofiev and Nikolai Myaskovsky. The piece made a huge impression on the audience. The success was tremendous. Soon it was presented two more times in Moscow and then performed in Leningrad, Yerevan, Tbilisi, Kiev, Odessa etc. Soon it became very popular not only in the USSR, but also abroad.  

During World War II, well-known work was often broadcast on the radio to raise the spirit of the Soviet people and strengthen faith in victory.  On March 15, 1941, Aram Khachaturian was awarded the Stalin Prize for this Concert.  

David Oistrakh recorded Aram Khachaturian's Violin Concerto only in 1948. After that, the composer's work gained popularity all over the world.
