Renowned Armenian tenor Gegham Grigoryan would have turned 75 today
Today, January 29, marks the 75th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Armenian opera singer (tenor) and director, People's Artist of the Armenian SSR, Honored Artist of the Lithuanian SSR Gegham Grigoryan.
On this special day, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia Daniel Danielyan, Director of the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet Karen Durgaryan, members of the maestro's family, representatives of the theater staff and artists, intellectuals, and fans of Gregorian art visited the pantheon in Komitas Park. They laid flowers at Gegham Grigoryan's grave and paid tribute to the memory of the acclaimed artist.
Daniel Danielyan spoke with family members and colleagues, highlighting the maestro's life, work, and his significant contributions to Armenian performing arts. Gegham Grigoryan performed in many major opera houses and concert halls worldwide. He established his own legacy in opera, presenting the best roles and nuanced performances for nearly fifty years. His expressive, distinctive, and powerful timbre; incomparable voice; and colorful, original artistic charm won the hearts of audiences everywhere, earning him a place among the world's greats. Gegham Grigoryan's name is inscribed among the 40 best tenors of the 20th century.
The international critics and musicians have called him the "tenor of all times," "God-given singer," and "one of the greatest modern tenors." The Armenian Opera and Ballet Theater will celebrate the anniversary of this great artist with various cultural programs and performances throughout the year.
