The 350th Anniversary of Mekhitar of Sebaste: Concert Dedicated to the Jubilee
This year marks the 350th anniversary of Mekhitar of Sebaste, a prominent Armenian clergyman, scholar, poet, composer, and founder of the Mekhitarist Congregation. The anniversary is included in this year’s jubilee programs of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

A special concert dedicated to the jubilee took place at the Komitas Chamber Music Hall.

Under the direction of conductor Harutyun Arzumanyan, the Armenian State Chamber Orchestra and the Yerevan State Chamber Choir presented centuries-old Armenian spiritual music heritage, centered on the creative and intellectual legacy of Mekhitar of Sebaste.

The concert opened with spiritual chants by Mesrop Mashtots, Nerses Shnorhali, and Gregory of Narek, performed by the Yerevan State Chamber Choir under the direction of choirmaster Kristina Voskanyan.

The program continued with performances by the orchestra and choir of works by Mekhitar Sebastatsi, as well as prominent Mekhitarist vardapets, including Ghevond Alishan, Gabriel Ayvazovsky, Karapet Ter Sahakyan, Mesrop Chanashyan, and Vahan Hovhannisyan, revealing the depth and rich traditions of Armenian spiritual music.

The works included in the program were presented in arrangements specially prepared for chamber ensemble, many of which were performed for the first time for a wider audience.
The concert was organized in cooperation with the National Center of Chamber Music, the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice, and the Embassy of Italy in Armenia.

Among the attendees were Alessandro Ferranti, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia; representatives of the Mekhitarist Congregation and the clergy; cultural figures; and officials.
