The new season of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet kicks off from Stepanavan
A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet in Stepanavan has launched its 93rd season, presenting one of the theater's signature performances—Aram Khachaturian's "Masquerade."

This also marked the start of the "Arena Lori" International Annual Art Festival. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Daniel Danielyan; MP Arpi Davoyan; Mayor of Stepanavan Armen Grigoryan; Director of the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after A. Spendiaryan, Karen Durgaryan; residents of Stepanavan; and city guests. Deputy Minister Danielyan welcomed those present and emphasized the significance of opening the new season of the Opera Theater in Stepanavan.

“The policy of decentralization of culture is on the agenda of the Government. This means that high culture should be accessible to all citizens, from schoolchildren to pensioners, in the regions of Armenia. High-quality performing arts should be available everywhere in the country: performances and concerts by the Opera Theater, the Sundukyan National Academic Theater, the Stanislavsky Russian State Drama Theater, and all theater and concert organizations under the Ministry,” said Danielyan.

Karen Durgaryan, director of the A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, believes that music lovers in the regions are prepared to host top-tier musical performances.

“The concerts and performances that the Opera Theater has presented in the regions demonstrate that there is an audience with refined tastes. We even brought an orchestra from Belgium to perform Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony. Watching the audience immersed in the performance was a pleasure. We should visit the regions more often.”

The festival’s program will include 10 performances and a concert by the Yerevan Opera for Stepanavan residents by the end of the year. Next year, both the program and the venues will expand.
