"Spartacus" to be performed in Yerevan again
On October 13, 15 and 16, at 7:00 p.m., Khachaturian's "Spartacus" ballet,  will be performed at A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet after the long break. 

The musical director of the performance and conductor is Karen Durgaryan, staging choreographer-Yuri Grigorovich (USSR People's Artist), painter - Simon Virsaladze (USSR People's Artist). The leading soloists of the Armenian Opera and Ballet Theater will play the main roles. The performance was restored with the support of the RA Ministry of Education and Science. The premiere of Aram Khachaturian's ballet "Spartacus" directed by Yuri Grigorovich took place in 2009 at A. Spendiaryan National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet.

Aram Khachaturian wrote the ballet "Spartacus" in 1954. The author of the libretto is Nikolai Volkov. The ballet was first staged on December 27, 1956, at the Mariinsky Theater in Leningrad. The libretto is based on Rafaello Giovannioli's novel "Spartacus". In 1959 the ballet was awarded the USSR Lenin Prize.

On July 9, 1950, Aram Khachaturian wrote on the front page of the score of "Spartacus" ballet. "I start with a feeling of great creative excitement." On the last page, we read: "It took me three and a half years to work on Spartak. I wrote mostly in the summer. In general, "Spartacus" was written in 8 months. I've finished it on February 22, 1954.
