SUMMEET Contemporary Dance Festival Expands Geography
With financial support from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture of the Republic of Armenia, the 5th International Summer Dance Festival of Contemporary Dance, SUMMEET, will take place in Yerevan and Gyumri from June 14 to July 1.
The SUMMEET festival program includes contemporary dance performances, physical and visual theater, as well as shows held in Armenian theaters and unique urban locations.
The 5th festival features new international collaborations with choreographers from Japan, South Korea, Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, and Kazakhstan. The festival’s educational program has expanded to include master classes and workshops at the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema (Katsura Kan – Japan, ACTS – France) and in Gyumri (Cannon Dance – Russia, Artur Galimulin and Tomiris Metibaeva – Kazakhstan).
As in previous years, one day of the festival will be dedicated entirely to the Armenian Showcase program, which will highlight the best performances by Armenian choreographers and contemporary dance companies, along with discussions and evaluations by Armenian choreographers and art experts.
This year, for the first time, the SUMMEET4KIDS program will be introduced during the festival, where participants will present performances in Yerevan and Gyumri.
The festival organizers include the “Mountains” cultural non-governmental organization, Vadim Kasparov, founder of the Open Look International Contemporary Dance Festival, opera singer Hayk Vardanyan, and the Balmanukyan Dance Project dance company.
The Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinema serves as the festival's general partner.
