Chaconne in "K" existence. the world premiere of Armenian ballet in Bulgaria
Chaconne in "K" existence. is the first joint project of choreographer, director Rima Pipoyan, and composer, producer Sergey Umroyan. “In the frame of the ContextAir residency program, I was invited to Plovdiv for a month to give workshops to the students of the dance department of the Academy of Arts in Plovdiv and to create a new performance. For this reason, there was announced an open call for dancers, and as a result of the open call, there were more than 100 applications worldwide. It was a big surprise for us because the project doesn’t cover travel and accommodation costs”,-Rima Pipoyan told ANM Media. The music was written from scratch, especially for this project by the Armenian composer Sergey Umroyan.
The world premiere of the ballet will take place on October 31 in Sofia, and on November 2 in Plovdiv.
“Initially, I planned to include six dancers, and considering the great interest in the project, I decided to choose four from abroad and the other two from Bulgaria, but there is no modern dance school in Bulgaria, they focus mainly on folk dances. The final selection went to the applicants from Italy, USA-Spain, Uruguay and England”. The dancers included in the project are Andrea Juanena (Uruguay), Alberto Serrano (USA-Spain), Naomi Alvino (Italy), and Sophie Manuella Keoshgerian (England).
