Today is the memorial day of Alexander Spendiaryan
Today marks the memorial day of one of the greatest figures of Armenian classical music, Alexander Spendiaryan. The composer’s ashes are interred in the park adjacent to the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
On the day of remembrance, a memorial and flower-laying ceremony was held at his grave. The event was attended by prominent cultural figures, artists, representatives of the music sphere, and admirers of the renowned composer’s art.
The commemorative event dedicated to Alexander Spendiaryan was once again organized this year by the Alexander Spendiaryan House-Museum and the Alexander Spendiaryan National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
According to the museum’s director, Marine Otharyan, this year’s Memorial Day was distinguished by a remarkable musical event: after 98 years, composer Levon Khoja-Eynatyan’s “Funeral Song” was performed once again. The piece was written in 1928 and dedicated to the bright memory of his beloved teacher, Alexander Spendiaryan.
The work was performed by the Vasily Kandinsky Quartet.
