Tribute to Aram Khachaturian

June 6 marks the birthday of composer, conductor, and People's Artist of the USSR Aram Khachaturian. To honor the memory of this great composer, RA Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Zhanna Andreasyan and Deputy Minister Daniel Danielyan visited the pantheon in Komitas Park and laid flowers at his grave.

 

Also present were Martin Tovmasyan, Executive Director of the Aram Khachaturian Cultural Foundation; Armen Smbatyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khachaturian International Competition; renowned pianist and conductor Vahagn Papyan; along with jury members from abroad, participants, representatives of musical art, art lovers, and schoolchildren.

 

Those present emphasized the need to reinterpret and reassess Aram Khachaturian’s rich heritage.

 

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized the importance of holding the annual Aram Khachaturian International Competition. She noted that the competition aims not only to discover young and talented musicians but also to popularize Aram Khachaturian’s musical heritage. The competition is part of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) based in Geneva, operating under the international standards set by WFIMC.
