Hovik Sardaryan to present his new composition at Lucerne Festival
The 11th edition of "Roche Commissions" awards British composer Thomas Adès for a work that will be premiered at Lucerne Festival in Summer 2022. Adès has announced that he will write a violin concerto for Anne-Sophie Mutter.
For the "Roche Young Commissions" which are traditionally given to two talented young composers, Hovik Sardaryan and David Moliner have been selected to develop and rehearse their new works in collaboration with the Lucerne Festival’s Academy Artistic Director, Wolfgang Rihm, and musicians from the Academy Network. They will unveil their works at the 2023 Summer Festival.
The Roche Young Commissions series was established for the first time in 2013 as a new and unique form of cooperation between Roche, Lucerne Festival, and the Lucerne Festival Academy. Roche Young Commissions gives two young composers under the age of 30 the opportunity to write orchestral works every other year alternating with Roche Commissions.
As part of their commission, the composers visit the Roche Headquarters in Basel and are paired with two young Roche scientists for intensive interactions, meet with researchers and engage in other activities designed to inspire the dialogue between science and art.
