World Ballet Premiere by Armenian Artists in Moscow and St. Petersburg
On March 24 and 25, the world premiere of the ballet "Icon" took place in Yermolova Theater, Moscow. It was choreographed and directed by Rima Pipoyan, with music composed by Sergey Umroyan. Belgium-based Irina Shaposhnikova designed the ballet’s costumes, while representatives of Context, Diana Vishneva, organized and performed the production.
Rima Pipoyan received the invitation to stage the ballet back in 2023. Work on the production began in August 2024 and, over the course of five non-consecutive weeks, was brought to the stage. Sergey Umroyan worked for more than six months to create the musical composition.
The premiere performances of Ikona in Moscow were a great success, and the audience, artists, and critics praised the production highly.
Rima Pipoyan, one of the leading figures in contemporary dance in Armenia, expressed her gratitude: "I am thankful to the professional team for their trust, dedication, and outstanding work. This is a great achievement not only for us but also for Armenian contemporary art."
Composer Sergey Umroyan added: "It is incredibly gratifying to hear positive feedback from top professionals. Creating this ballet was a long and responsible process, and I am happy that it has received such a strong response."
The "Icon" ballet premiere in St. Petersburg will take place on March 31 and April 1 at Youth Theater on the Fontanka.
Moscow audiences will have another chance to enjoy the ballet on April 14 and 15.
We congratulate our compatriots on their triumphant performances and wish them continued success.
