Pianist Dmitry Masleev to present Rachmaninoff programme on first solo tour in Armenia
This autumn, Armenia will host a major musical event: renowned pianist Dmitry Masleev, winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition, returns for his first solo recital tour dedicated to Sergei Rachmaninoff. The Primavera Foundation and the State Philharmonia of Armenia are collaborating to organize the tour.
Dmitry Masleev, a world-renowned pianist and winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition, has already visited Armenia multiple times and performed with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Eduard Topchjan.
However, Masleev’s connection with Armenia extends beyond concert performances. As Head of the Piano Department at the Primavera Foundation, he is actively involved in educational and outreach activities in the country. He regularly gives free masterclasses to talented young Armenian pianists, making a valuable contribution to the development of Armenia’s piano tradition and supporting the next generation of musicians.
Speaking about his upcoming visit, Dmitry Masleev says: “Every visit to Armenia is a special occasion and a source of inspiration for me. Through my years of collaboration with the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Maestro Eduard Topchjan, and the Primavera Foundation, this country has become very dear to me. As part of my teaching activities at the Foundation, I regularly meet young Armenian pianists and am always impressed by their musical depth and sincere dedication to their art. That is why it is especially important to me to visit the regions, share my experience, and make classical music accessible to everyone. My first solo recital tour, dedicated to Rachmaninoff, together with the masterclasses and joint performances with local talents, is a token of my gratitude to Armenia and its wonderful audiences.”
Masleev’s upcoming tour in Armenia will include performances in both Yerevan and the regions. Admission to the concerts in Vardenis and Kapan will be free of charge, highlighting the project’s important social and educational mission. The pianist will perform on November 17 at Vardenis Music School No. 1 (free admission), on November 19 at UWC Dilijan College, on November 21 at the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall in Yerevan, and on November 23 at the Organ Hall of the Kapan State College of Arts (free admission).
This year, Dmitry Masleev is offering an exclusive opportunity for an Armenian musician to perform an encore with him during the tour. The joint performance will be presented as an encore and will feature a work by an Armenian composer, either in its original version or in an arrangement.
Masleev will select the participant from among those who submit applications in advance. Applicants must be citizens of the Republic of Armenia and must be students or graduates of the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan or its Gyumri branch, or participants in the Primavera Foundation's programs.
On November 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Dmitry Masleev will also hold piano masterclasses at the Grand Hall of the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall.
Applications for participation in the masterclasses and the joint performance selection are available on the official website of the Primavera Foundation.
