Yerevan State Chamber Choir Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary with a Gala Concert
A gala concert marking the 30th anniversary of the Yerevan State Chamber Choir took place on November 5 at the Komitas Chamber Music Hall. The evening brought together music lovers to celebrate the choir’s three decades of artistic achievements.
The anniversary event opened with welcoming remarks by Garegin Sargsyan, Director of the National Centre of Chamber Music. He praised the choir’s contribution to the development of Armenian musical art, particularly emphasizing the role of its founder, Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia Harutyun Topikyan, in establishing the ensemble and shaping its artistic identity.
Garegin Sargsyan also congratulated the choir’s current Artistic Director and Conductor, Kristina Voskanyan, on continuing the traditions established by its founder and further advancing the ensemble’s artistic journey. In recognition of her significant contribution to the development and promotion of chamber music in Armenia, the Centre’s Director presented her with the Komitas Commemorative Medal.
At the concert, the Yerevan State Chamber Choir performed under the direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Kristina Voskanyan. The program featured Armenian classical and contemporary music, including works by Komitas, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Tigran Mansuryan, Armenuhi Karapetyan, and Tigran Hamasyan, as well as arrangements by Vahagn Babloyan.
One of the special guests of the anniversary concert was internationally acclaimed Armenian pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan, a distinctive voice in contemporary jazz. Dialog Project also joined the evening as a special guest, presenting original interpretations of Armenian folk songs.
Honoured Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia Harutyun Topikyan founded the choir, initially named the Yerevan Chamber Choir. In 2009, it was granted state status and renamed the Yerevan State Chamber Choir.
Throughout its history, the choir has emphasized preserving and promoting Komitas’s musical legacy while continually expanding its repertoire with works by Armenian classical and contemporary composers.
