Cellist Levon Mouradian was born in Yerevan in 1959, July 10, in a family of musicians. He is the grandson of renowned folklorist Hayrik Mouradian and the son of Maro Mouradian, the founder of “Akunq” ensemble. Levon Mouradian started playing the cello at Tchaikovsky School in the class of professor Alexander Chaushyan. He continued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory with professor M. Khomitser. He began performing publicly at the age of 10 when he won First Prize for interpretation in a competition in Armenia for young Armenian musicians. Levon Mouradian was the Silver Medal winner in the 1985 Pablo Casals International Cello Competition in Budapest, Hungary. One year later, he won a prize in the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, Russia. In 1982 he won the 3rd prize at the Soviet Union Competition In 1997, he achieved the first prize for cello in the Julio Cardona International Competition in Covilha, Portugal. He has founded Dellalian trio in 1995. As a soloist Levon Mouradian has performed with eminent conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Veronika Dudarova, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Jansug Kakhidze, Lawrence Foster, Vakhtang Jordania, David Khandjian, Omri Hadari, Daniel Nazare, Vag Papian, Avner Biron and Gheorge Kostin, Joana Carneiro and Ruben Aharonian to mention only a few. He has performed in various countries such as USA, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Russia, Armenia, Israel, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Hungary, Spain, Portugal and former Jugoslavia. He has performed in major international music festivals, in particular in Munich (Nachtstücke) and Schloss Weikersheim in Germany, David Oistrakh Festival (Tallin), International Music Festival Santander and many other cities in Spain and Portugal (Burgos , Cangas de Onis, Madeira, Coimbra and Algarve, Sintra, Leiria, Tomar and Viana do Castelo). In 1999, Levon Mouradian started directing the cello class in the Department of Arts at State University Evora, Portugal. Since 2015 he has been directing the cello class at the Escola Superior Lisbon, Portugal. Besides, he regularly gives advanced classes at the Valle De Arlanza and the Noeva Generaciòn Musical, festivals in Spain and Germany and at the International Festival in Viana do Castello, together with Ivan Monigetti and Nathaniel Rosen, among others. Levon Mouradian has taught master classes following an invitation of the University of Georgia, USA. He was a jury member at the Julio Cardona International String Competition. Throughout his career he has recorded works by Komitas, H. Dellalian, T. Mansurian, K. Khachaturian, A. Terterian, D. Shostakovich, K. Khachaturian etc. Levon Mouradian plays on a 18th century Venetian cello from Gofriller workshop.
