Biography
Varsenik Avanyan was born in Yerevan. In 2002 she graduated from Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory vocal-theoretical faculty (Professor S. Danielyan's class). Also graduated from Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in 2005 (Postgraduate studies). Parallelly she took lessons from People’s Artist of USSR Zaruhi Dolukhanyan (Zara Dolukhanova). Throughout 2009 in St. Petersburg took part in master classes of famous opera singer Yelena Obraztsova.
Varsenik Avanyan has performed both in the homeland and abroad. She has had a number of solo concerts in Armenia and has regularly performed in the largest cities of Russia. The singer has participated in numerous festivals in Moscow, including «Festos» Youth Fest (2003) and Moscow Autumn (2006). In Armenia, Avanyan performed within the framework of the "One Nation, One Culture" festival. In 2005 she presented Bach's Arias at the Hall of Columns with the Mosfilm Orchestra, and in 2006 performed with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Moscow Music House.
She had solo concerts at the Feodor Chaliapin House-Museum (2005) at Kaliningrad Mother Cathedral (2009), at the Nicosia Music Academy in Cyprus (2010) and at the Armenian Apostolic Church Primacy (2014), Klaipeda Music academy (2018). Since 2007, she has been a soloist at the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater after Alexander Spendiaryan. Notable roles include Carmen (J. Bizet's "Carmen"), Parandzem (T. Tchukhajian's "Arshak II"), Ameris (J. Verdi's "Aida"), Almast (A. Spendiarian's "Almast") "), Azucena (J. Verdi's" Troubadour "), etc., and performs solo concerts within the project " Concerts at Foyer". In 2009, she took part in the premiere of Edward Sadoyan's contemporary opera "Hey, Who's There", starring the main character Kate. She has been a member of the «Acoustic colors'' Ethno-Jazz Quartet since 2010. In 2013, the Quartet performed solo concerts in Stuttgart. In 2015, she participated in the MIDEM International Festival of Art (Cannes) both with the Quartet and the State Jazz Orchestra of Armenia.
In 2019, she performed solo concerts dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Komitas and the 95th anniversary of Avet Terteryan in Yerevan, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Klaipeda and Vilnius (Lithuania). In 2020 V. Avanyan organized and performed a concert series dedicated to the 100th anniversary of composer Alexander Arutiunian in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Berd and Ashtarak. IN the same year, she presented Armenian-Jewish music concerts in Moscow and Yerevan. In 2021 V. Avanyan performed in Moscow, at the Niko Gallery, where together with Questa Musica choir and orchestra led by renowned conductor Phillip Chizhevsky, she performed choral works by Komitas, Tigran Mansuryan's "Confession of Faith" based on Nerses Shnorhali's prayers, vocal cycle based on Gabriel Garcia Lorca’s poetry, as well as Luciano Berrio's "Folk Songs". In the same year, V. Avanyan presented mono opera "The human voice" by F. Poulenc.
