Komitas' works included in UNESCO Memory of the World Register
The works of Great Armenian cleric, musicologist, composer, arranger, singer, and choirmaster Komitas have been included in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register, following a unanimous vote by the Executive Board. The news was announced today at Komitas Museum-Institute.
Zhanna Andreasyan, Armenia's Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, stated that comparable processes necessitate long-term and constant collaboration among numerous departments.
Zhanna Andreasyan thanked her colleagues and the research team, noting that the collection of Komitas Vardapet's works was registered in the International Register of Memory of the World by unanimous decision of the UNESCO Executive Board, which is the result of the state's consistent policy. It is a long-term project involving the coordination of several departments. A significant component of the procedure is large-scale scientific research, during which the application is appropriately prepared in compliance with international standards.
RA Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahan Kostanyan congratulated on the important event and stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to the internationalization of cultural heritage. According to him, Komitas' 150th anniversary was included UNESCO Calendar of anniversaries of eminent personalities and important events in 2019. "The International Register of Memory of the World includes documentary samples of remarkable importance. The primary goal of this program is to prevent the loss of priceless archives and libraries around the world while also promoting their proper protection and widespread circulation. Before it, the first survey of the Byurakan observatory, Matenadaran's manuscript collections, and Aram Khachaturian's works all earned a place on the coveted list.
