Body, stage and nature: dance, theatre and art at COP17

The COP17 Green Zone (Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, 19–30 October, free entry) is a vibrant platform not only for environmental discussions but also for dance, theatre, and visual art.

  • Dance — The "Barekamutyun" State Ensemble presents Armenian dance on 19 and 21 October. Rima Pipoyan's short dance film "REEK / ԾԽԱԼ", part of the Environmental Dance project, follows a dancer who cannot breathe in a landfill but moves freely in the desert, mountains, sea, and forest — a vivid portrait of our fragile bond with nature.

  • Theatre — The Yerevan State Pantomime Theatre stages "Girk Tsaghkants" (Book of Flowers) on 19 and 30 October. MIHR Theatre's film-performance "Land" (director Tsolak Mlke-Galstyan) explores themes of war, displacement, and loss, alongside hope and love for the land.

  • Exhibition — In Arwest's "Reframing Heritage" exhibition (Yana Zakharova, sculptor Nairi Grigorian, Nune Vardanyan), digital collage seamlessly meets traditional Armenian miniature painting.

  • For children — Arevik Publishing and author Tatevik Avetisyan present an interactive storytelling session of the book "Sermik" (The Little Seed), followed by a hands-on seed-planting and book-making workshop designed for ages 4+.

  • Ritual and tradition — On 25 October, the "Masunk" ensemble named after R. Haroyan will perform ritual dances at the Garni Temple, and on 26 October, the "Horovel" ensemble of Vanadzor will take the stage at Meridian for the "Day of the Mountains".
