"Serenade with a Dandelion" CD set includes Armenian composers' 55 pieces
The Concert in celebration of the launch of their 4-CD set "Serenade with a Dandelion" will be held on March 4 at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. As UCLA reports, the concert will showcase the best of Armenian art music, from hallowed classics to world premieres and feature world-class artists: violinists Varty Manouelian, Andrew McIntosh, Kristapor Najarian and Movses Pogossian, violist Che-Yen Chen, cellist Coleman Itzkoff, pianist Steen Vanhauwaert, saxophonist Jan Berry Baker, UCLA’s VEM String Quartet, and composer Artur Akshelyan (visiting from Armenia).
Serenade with a Dandelion is conceived as a continuation of the ongoing recordings of Armenian music in the Modulation Necklace Series, the new CD features music by legends Komitas Vardapet and modern-day classic Tigran Mansurian, as well as cutting-edge new composers. Of the total of 55 tracks of music (just under five hours), 21 are world-premiere recordings of new works, several of which were commissioned especially for this project.
