Balalaika compared with a swastika in Sweden

Balalaika compared with a swastika in Sweden
A concert in support of Ukraine by the Swedish group Södra bergens balalaikor, which performs music, has been canceled in Swedish Uppsala due to balalaikas, SVT Nyheter reported.

"Those who heard about it (about the concert - ed.), wrote that the balalaika is a symbol of Russia, and playing the balalaika for Ukraine is sacrilege. They compare it with a swastika," the channel quotes one of the members of the group, Jonas Nyberg .

According to the channel, the organizers faced "pressure from people who do not want to see balalaikas on stage during a concert in support of Ukraine."

Södra bergens balalaikor started their musical activity in 1969. Today it is an amateur orchestra, consisting of about 20 people, which plays Russian, Swedish, as well as Ukrainian folk music.
