Bach's " St. Matthew Passion" to be presented in Yerevan
After long hiatus, the National Chamber Music Center will present an exclusive concert featuring Johann Sebastian Bach's " St. Matthew Passion". The concert will take place on October 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall.
Participants: State Chamber Orchestra of Armenia (artistic director and principal conductor: Vahan Martirosyan), the State Chamber Choir of Armenia (artistic director and conductor: Robert Mlkeyan), Yerevan State Chamber Choir (artistic director - choir director: Kristina Voskanyan), Our Lady of Armenia choir (Artistic Director and Conductor: Robert Mlkeyan). The collectives will perform under the direction of conductor Phillip Amelung from Germany, who is not performing in our country for the first time.
The soloists will be musicians Franziska Bobe (soprano), Seda Amir-Karayan (alto), Martin Petzold (tenor), Dustin Drosdziok (tenor), Jens Hamann (bass),Andreas Scheibner (tenor) from Germany.
The great work " St. Matthew Passion" was first performed in 1727. The total duration is three hours, the piece consists of 78 parts. It is one of the peaks of musical heritage. It is not the first time that Phillip Amelung will cooperate with Armenian collectives. Under the baton of Amelung, in 2020, Bach's "St. Johnes Passion" BWV 245 was presented in our country.
Let us remind you that conductor Philip Amelung is one of the most flexible conductors of his time. He started his music career at the age of eight in the Tolz Boys' Choir, where he later worked. He has performed with Georgian Chamber Orchestra, Munich Symphony Orchestra, Southwest German Chamber Orchestra P, Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra, North Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra Teplice and others. He works closely with baroque orchestras. He founded a music festival in Munich in 2000. Actively engaged in pedagogical activities. He is the Music Director of the University of Tübingen, having been elected to this position by winning 140 applicants.
