Yerevan State Chamber Choir Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Jubilee Gala Concert

On November 5, the Komitas Chamber Music House hosted a jubilee gala concert marking the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Yerevan State Chamber Choir. The celebratory evening brought together music lovers and figures from the cultural sphere to honor the ensemble's three decades of creative work and accomplishments.

Opening the evening, Garegin Sargsyan, director of the National Centre of Chamber Music, offered welcoming remarks praising the choir's contribution to the development of Armenian musical art. He paid special tribute to the ensemble's founder, Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Armenia Harutyun Topikyan, for his role in establishing the collective and shaping its artistic identity. Sargsyan also congratulated the current artistic director and conductor, Kristina Voskanyan, for carrying forward the founder's traditions, and presented her with the "Komitas" commemorative medal in recognition of her significant contributions to advancing and promoting chamber music in Armenia.

Led by Kristina Voskanyan, the Yerevan State Chamber Choir performed a rich musical program uniting Armenian classical and contemporary compositions. The concert included works by Komitas, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Tigran Mansurian, Armenuhi Karapetyan, and Tigran Hamasyan, alongside arrangements by Vahagn Babloyan.

Among the evening's special guests was renowned Armenian pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan. Dialog Project also joined the celebration as a special guest, offering unique interpretations of Armenian folk songs.

The collective was established by Harutyun Topikyan under the name Yerevan Chamber Choir. In 2009, it was granted state status and became the Yerevan State Chamber Choir. Throughout its history, the choir has placed particular emphasis on preserving and promoting the musical legacy of Komitas, while continually enriching its repertoire with pieces by Armenian classical and modern composers.
