Biography
Armenian cellist, People's Artist of the USSR Geronti Talalyan was born in 1926 in Yerevan. In 1951 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory. From 1951 he was a soloist of the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, from 1956 he was a concertmaster of the cellists of the Yerevan Opera Theatre. From 1951 to 2000 he taught at the Yerevan State Conservatory and has been a professor since 1977. He conducted the cello ensemble which he founded in 1951, the symphony orchestra of the Yerevan Music College after Romanos Melikyan, the chamber orchestra of the Yerevan Conservatory.
He performed with great artists such as Yu. Sitkovetsky, M. Ghambaryan, H. Vardanyan, Arno Babajanyan. He made a number of cello arrangements. Composers Alexander Harutyunyan, Edgar Hovhannisyan, Alexander Achemyan, S. Naghdyan and many other Armenian composers dedicated their pieces to Geronti Talalyan.
He is the father of the Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia Aram Talalyan, the brother of the People's Artist of the Armenian SSR, viola player Henrikh Talalyan.
